Revelation: The Unveiling – The Results of the Rapture by Dea. Ray Carter

The Restrainer is Removed

In a previous blog that I wrote I defined the Rapture, what it is and what it is not.  This is a sequel to that blog in which I will attempt to explicate what are the immediate results of the Rapture.  In 2 Thess 2:7-8, it states the “The mystery of lawlessness is already at work.  Only he who restrains it will do so until he is out of the way.  And then the lawless one will be revealed.”  This verse reveals that the lawless one (the antichrist) cannot be revealed until the one who restrains is taken out of the way.

But who is the restrainer? And how does the restrainer relate to the mystery of lawlessness?  What is the mystery of lawlessness?  Everything that surrounds the church; its inception, its existence and its rapture from the world is a mystery.  In my prequel to this blog I explained what a mystery is in biblical terms.  In this case the mystery is a revelation of a future climax of lawlessness in the world. Then and now a movement against the divine principles of God was and is operative.  But it is being restrained to a degree, and the restraining will continue until the appointed time for revealing the man of sin and the climax of lawlessness.  The man of sin (2Thess 2:3) is the antichrist.  He will embody sin and promote sin in the world as it has never been promoted before.  There have been some conjectures by bible scholars and interpreters as to who the restrainer is.  Some have said it is the Roman Empire, others have said it is human government and some have said it is the Holy Spirit.  Many students of the bible believe that only one person – the Omnipotent God – is powerful enough to restrain Satan.  For this reason I believe the restrainer is the Holy Spirit who indwells the church.  The Holy Spirit is the only Person with sufficient (supernatural) power to restrain the mystery of lawlessness.  The removal of the Restrainer at the time of the Rapture must obviously precede the second coming of our Lord.

The Holy Spirit in Tribulation

If the Holy Spirit is taken out of the way at the Rapture, will he still be active on the earth during the tribulation period?  I believe He will.  The church age is parenthetical in God’s dealing with the world.  The church, injected supernaturally into history at Pentecost and supernaturally sustained through the ages by the baptizing, indwelling and filling works of the Holy Spirit, will be supernaturally removed when this age is over.  After the rapture of the church, the Holy Spirit will continue His work of bringing people to salvation, but He will no longer baptize them into the mysterious body, the church, which will have already exited the world.  Neither will He restrain the antichrist from brining his satanic schemes into full fruition during that time.  Once the antichrist has brought his satanic kingdom in the earth to its fullness, the pinnacle of his glory, then Christ will return and demolish the whole thing.  There is abundant evidence that the Holy Spirit will be active in the earth during the tribulation period.  His witness (Mark 13:11) will be more effective than it has ever been (Matt. 24:14; Rev 7:9-14).   As satanic activity increases in the world during this time, so will the activity of the Holy Spirit.  The work of the Holy Spirt during the tribulation period will mark an unprecedented time for people coming to Christ and acknowledging that Jesus is the Savior, especially for the Jewish people who will come to Christ as their only hope during this turbulent time and thus fulfil the prophecy that all Israel (the promised remnant) will be saved (Rom11:26).

God treads on paths of velvet, lest the coming sound of His footsteps will conquer through fear the heart that should be won by love.
